I'll Be Home For Christmas

It's the most wonderful time of the year! I absolutely love teaching at Christmastime. Everyone is in a good mood. (Almost everyone!) The kids are excited. (Extremely excited!) Stress levels are high but it's good fun stress. It really is one of my favorite times to teach.

Love Is All You Need

First of all, thank you to everyone that has checked in with me about my dad. It's been a long and frustrating journey because his condition has not improved much, and we still don't have the answers we hoped for after a month. He is still at Barnes, and he still has many issues that we hope to be resolved, but we know he will never be the same man he was before all of this. His mind is not the same and his body is weak. This is not the way he would want to live. It's completely unfair but this is what's happening and we are all dealing with it in the best way we can.

Enjoy Every Sandwich

Summer is officially over and school is already getting ready to start its fourth full week. I usually stop blogging in May and write different kinds of things over the summer. In August, I like to start my blogging routine again. I've been really busy and life has decided to take a different turn for me, so blogging has had to take a backseat. But today I thought it was time to stop the rollercoaster for a bit and write.

Cue Alice Cooper

Tempers are flaring. Tears are falling. Countdowns are happening. Schedules are changing. Stress is at an all-time high. It must be the end of the year!

It Takes A Village

Growing up in a small town has advantages and disadvantages. Advantage: Everyone knows everyone. Disadvantage:  Everyone knows everyone. I have always loved the camaraderie that our little town has. We pick each other up when we are in trouble. We pull together in times of need. We celebrate together. We mourn together. On the flipside, we all know each other's business and we run into each other everywhere. No one can get away with a quick trip to the local Dairy Queen without someone seeing you drowning your sorrows in a large blizzard topped with French fries. "Hey, Julie! I saw you last night eating that huge ice cream cone dipped in that bowl of hot fudge with a side of fries and a bag of Dilly Bars. Good to see you!" So there are pros and cons.

The Greatest Love of All

Disclaimer: This blog is basically me bragging about my kids and grandkid so read at your own risk.

I feel like I've always been a teacher in some way. I was always playing school as a child. When my kids were born, I started teaching them. Then I was in the classroom teaching the hundreds of kids I've taught so far.

Maybe That Is An M

It's that time of year! It's time for the annual "there's no m in valentine" lesson. Every year I put up the good fight. Every year I fail miserably. I will never give up though. I will continue to make it my mission to figure out why kids insist there's an m in this word.

You Say It's Your Birthday

Several years ago I read a book about the importance of birthdays to children. I would credit that book if I could remember what it was. I think it was a book about middle school kids, but I wouldn't swear to it. I'll probably think of it in the middle of the night and I'll add it to this blog later. For now, let's just say I didn't come up with this research, but I have lived it long enough to believe it's the truth.

2019: The Best Year Ever!

Happy 2019 to everyone! I just read my blog from last year at this time and I was trying to imagine a year that could be better than 2017. I'm happy to report that 2018 was amazing and I'm excited to see what 2019 will bring. My family is happy and healthy. My kids are doing great. Lyla Grace gets cuter and smarter, so that kid can only make life better!
