I try so hard. I write it on the board and point to the letters. "Does anyone see an M?" They all say no but still I hear "valentimes" within seconds. But by the time we have our Valentine's Day party, I've got every kid saying the word valentine. I feel so accomplished and successful.
So last week one of my students from last year came to see me. He asked what we were doing and I showed him the bags we had just made for valentines. I thought to myself, "This is a great opportunity to see if my teaching sticks!" So knowing the answer already, I asked him if he remembered what February 14th was called. He sure did! VALENTIME'S DAY!
I'm starting to believe that I'm the one that's wrong. So as Junie B. Jones says and every other child I've ever taught...
